A quick update: When Sam came home after his surgery he was doing great the first day and a half but then went back to the hospital for another week. 🙁 I was having to give him a nasty Amikacin shot once a day with fluids under the skin, that was bad enough but he was also forming quite a bit of fluid at the base of his incision – it was a hard decision taking him back but I knew they were better equipped and trained to deal with whatever Sam may need. He had a bit of a rough time at the hospital and ended up having to have the fluid drained, it just wouldn’t go away. Once he came home the second time, I thought it was over for my Sam… He wouldn’t eat, he wouldn’t/couldn’t move and he just wasn’t himself so I took him back to see his doctor, again, and I guess he just wanted one last good-bye from her… He ate for her and walked around just fine; he perked up and was ready to head back to the ranch just in time for Christmas! We’ve been back in South Texas since Dec. 20th and all seems well, except Sam seems to be a little bit more spoiled than ever. (If that could be possible!) I have some pictures but haven’t downloaded them yet; I’ll get them posted soon.
I would try to see if Sam would say a few words but he is curled up in bed with the covers halfway over him snoring right now!! He looked up once when he saw me open my laptop in bed and gave me a dirty look…he’ll get over it. 🙂
HA! He knows you’re talking about him 😛 Either that or he’s upset you’re on the computer rather than giving him attention 🙂 Glad he’s doing better! Those first days can be rough. We had to take Jack back as well for a couple days to deal with massive abdominal bruising. Keep it up, Sam!!

So glad Sam is feeling better. Keep giving him lots of treats. That’s the answer to fast recovery for sure…Opie
Fluid buildup in post-op seromas is perfectly normal. Some dogs have it worse than others though, we only had to have Jerry’s drained once. Sounds like Sam is back on the road to recovery. Thanks for the update!
I’m so glad that Sam is feeling better… You can never spoil them enough!! So keep doing what you’ve been doing! I’m sure that Sam will appreciate it!
Hurry up and post some pictures soon!!!

Sam we are sorry you had a ruff first couple of weeks! We are very happy to see you are feeling better! Get over that hurdle and you will be your normal self except much more spoiled. When my brother Peyton was with us, we got so many treats and pretty much anything Peyton wanted Mom would give us!
We can’t wait for pictures!!
