Hi, itās Sam and I’m home! Well, I’m home at our house in Houston; we live in South Texas on a ranch most of the time. The ranch is where life is most fun (city life isnāt for me)!! Even though mom and dad don’t let me do all the things I love to do anymore (since I broke my foot) I still have a really big yard to run and play in and sometimes when we walk over to the lakes (and when mom’s not watching) I jump in and take a swim!
My breed (even though a mix) may be rare, it’s not by accident. I have a GREAT nose and am strong and agile. I use to track wounded deer and boy was I good at it!!! Maybe, if I can prove myself on 3 legs, they’ll let me go out in the field again…maybe?
I have to admit so far this 3-leg thing doesnāt seem so bad, I get around just fine. (Of course the drugs are pretty good too, maybe thatās why this seems not so bad!?!?) The only thing that totally sucks is I canāt jump on the bed or sofaā¦thatās not cool ā please tell me Iāll get that figured out! And, Iām not quite sure how Iām going to knock on the door when Iām ready to come back in from being outside or need to go outsideā¦for some reason I think my dad is happy about that. He calls it scratching; I call it knockingā¦whatās his problem?
My sister, Neely, sheās a prissy Aussie, isnāt quite sure what to think. I suspect she’s thinking, āGreat, Samās going to get all the attentionā¦AGAIN!ā Iāve had my medical problems, I donāt blame her. 4 years ago some fencing contractors driving on the ranch too fast ran over me; I was in the hospital for a long, long time and then back and forth for a while after that. I had to have skin grafts and all kinds of not so fun stuff with that injury ā which was on my back right legā¦ Then 2 years ago, as we were headed out to the field to find a wounded deer, I fell (long story my mom doesnāt like to talk about) and broke all the bones in my foot. I think my mom gave you the run down of that terrible injury, which landed me here.
Whew, Iām tired! My doctor said I need to take it easy so I think Iāll see if I can talk mom into helping up on the sofa and see if I can snooze for a while. Itās been fun telling you a little about me; I think my mom is posting more picsā¦she takes A LOT of pictures.
Sam is an absolutely handsome dog and it sounds like he leads a wonderful life.
Opie is a left leg amputee and I guarantee you that you will be amazed at how quickly Sam I Am learns how to get up on the couch and the bed. I’ll bet he is doing it even before his stitches come out. Opie figured it out pretty quickly, though I am a little frantic about the getting down off the couch and bed.
